Why Canada?

“For years, Canada has been one of the pillars of the United Nations; In fact, it would be difficult to imagine the United Nations without Canada. Multicultural and bilingual, your country is a model amongst the members of the organization”
- Kofi Annan, Former Secretary General of the United Nations

Canada: a world leader

Canada is endowed with abundant resource wealth that will ensure the strength of its economy for generations to come. In addition to possessing oil sands with reserves second only to Saudi Arabia, 10% of the world's forests and 20% of the world's fresh water, Canada has been able to harness these great resources to become the third largest diamond-producing nation, and the number one producer of hydroelectricity worldwide.

Staking new ground in the digital economy

In addition, Canada also prides itself on being at the forefront of progressive knowledge-based industries, such as aerospace technology, wireless communications, and medical, pharmaceutical and genetic research. Plus, thanks to the best-educated workforce in the world, Canada is producing a wide variety of innovative products that are changing the way we live.
Improving quality of life worldwide

Some of the innovations that are uniquely Canadian include: the Canadarm, the mechanical arm used to manoeuvre payloads and inspect the exterior of the Space Shuttle planes; high-speed Zefiro trains designed and manufactured by Bombardier; and, the BlackBerry, developed by Research in Motion to support email, mobile telephone, text messaging, and web browsing.

Canadian trade goes global

The long-term growth of the Canadian economy is secured thanks to continued profitable trade made possible through the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) and membership in the association for Asia-Pacific Economic Co-operation (APEC). Canada's enduring ties with the United States, by far our largest trading partner at $1.7 billion in trade daily, as well as strong historical ties with Europe, the Middle East and Asia, have opened doors to limitless opportunities for immigrant investors.

Strong international ties for prosperity... and peace

Beyond the business aspect, Canada is also a prominent member of the United Nations: its multiculturalism and bilingualism providing a model for all members of this world body. Furthermore, over the past 60 years, Canada has strongly advocated resolving global issues in collaboration with other nations, a value best exemplified by Canada's proposal in 1956 of peacekeeping forces to maintain peace and security around the world.

Canada's strong economy, robust trade ande natural resources, as well as its reputation as a good global citizen has helped foreign direct investment in Canada rise to $465 billion in 2005

The following criteria apply to all potential investor candidates:

  • Have acquired at least three (3) years of experience

About The Capital Investment

Many potential investors, though able to meet the net worth requirements, may find it difficult to raise cash in a short period of time. Others may have profitable businesses and would prefer not to liquidate part of these assets.

To better service a candidate's particular needs, NorthStar offers different options with respect to meeting the required capital investment of $800,000 CDN. A potential investor can therefore provide a portion of the deposit with his own funds and NorthStar will help him obtain financing for the remaining amount by securing a loan of up to $620,000 CDN through one of the world's top-ranking banks.

1 The deposit amount of $180,000 CDN will not be returned, nor will any interest or revenue be generated from it. It serves to pay the interest and any other fees related to the loan amount.

Why now?

There are five major reasons why investing is Canada is the right option for you, and this is the right time:

  • Religious freedom and tolerance
  • World class education and career opportunities for your kids
  • A booming economy that is conducive for investing and doing business
  • A growing demand for trained qualified personnel in Canada
  • Shortest route to obtaining your citizenship and establishing your new home away from home

Religious freedom

Canada is a country which prides itself on religious freedom and religious tolerance. As the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms guarantees freedom of religious expression, citizens are free to practice their faiths according to their traditions, generally without interference from the government. And even when someone's religious beliefs conflicts with a long established Canadian tradition, great tolerance can be shown, as was the case with the first Sikh Royal Canadian Mounted Police officer permitted to wear a turban instead of the regulation hat. Another example, under Section 2(a) of the Charter, the wearing of the hijab (head scarf worn by Muslim women) is permitted in schools and places of work. Religious holidays and dietary restrictions (e.g. Hala, Kosher, etc) are also respected.

Affordable World-Class Education for your children

Would you like your children to take advantage of Canada’s exceptional education system?
At NorthStar we can show you how the Immigrant Investor Program could mean substantial savings, because families who relocate here and become permanent residents benefit from the same low tuition fees Canadians enjoy. The substantial savings on the cost of your children's education alone more than justifies the significantly reduced down payment.
The table below compares the cost of a four-year university education for a family of two children in two instances: A foreign family with two children (left column) and an immigrant investor program family with two permanent resident children (right column)

A comparison of the cost of education in Canada between foreign and permanent resident students

Case 1: A foreign family with two children

Case 2: The Immigrant Investor Program family with two permanent resident children

Average annual international tuition fees: $CAN 16,500/child/year

Average annual Canadian tuition fees:
$CAN 3,500 /child/year

Total 4 year degree tuition costs:
2 children x 4 years
x $CAN16,500/year = $CAN132,000

Total 4 year degree tuition costs:
2 children x 4 years
x $CAN3,500/year = $CAN28,000*

*A savings of $104,000 over the option necessitating international student fees

Education Expenses: $CAN132,000
Golden Plan: $0
Total Expenses: $CAN132,000

Education Expenses: $CAN28,000
Golden Plan: $CAN120,000
Total Investments: $CAN148,000

Permanent resident status or Canadian citizenship for whole family

Graduates needs authorization to work, live, and travel in Canada is required

From the above comparison one can see that for a mere $CAN16,000 more than the cost of university schooling for two children, an immigrant investor and his/her family gain a host of valuable benefits a foreign family simply could not enjoy as easily. The permanent resident status and the right to live and work in this dynamic nation are advantages many would argue are priceless!

Booming Canadian Economy

Canada has the fastest growing and most competitive economy of the G8 nations. In fact, Canada is currently enjoying one of the longest periods of uninterrupted economic growth since WWII, thanks to robust foreign trade, highly-skilled workers, quality infrastructures, and great market opportunities in the United States and abroad. Furthermore, the Canadian economy has been growing steadily over the last five years, producing consistently low unemployment rates (approx. 6.5%), large government surpluses, a low inflation rate (approx. 2.4%) and a rising Canadian dollar.

As One of the wealthiest nations in the world, Canada is recognized as the most cost-competitive G7 nation in which to do business. The Canadian economy is dominated by the manufacturing and service sectors (retail, tourism, banking, education). However, thanks to its abundance of natural resources, Canada also has healthy industries in the primary sector (forestry, oil, and mining) and manufacturing (automobiles). The future of the Canadian economy is already being secured through the development of a dazzling new knowledge-based economy based on Canada's abundance of knowledge workers and technological capacity.

Current need for qualified and trained personnel

A combination of aging population demographics, a growing economy, and fewer qualified workers to fill the void is quickly making labour a scarce commodity. On average 40% of the employers are finding it increasingly challenging to fill many positions. Foreseeing the negative effect this labour shortage could have on the Canadian economy, the new federal government has increased financial allocations for the attraction and settlement of skilled immigrant workers. Recognizing international credentials of skilled newcomers to this country is a priority for Canada.

Citizenship in 3 years

The investor program establishes that any foreign investor who qualifies under the federal or provincial investor program will get his immigration status that will allow the principle applicant and his/her immediate family to move to Canada as landed immigrants. As per Canadian immigration laws any Canadian permanent resident that has been residing in Canada for a period of three years can apply for his/her Canadian citizenship. The investor program allows people to immigrate and obtain Canadian citizenship in one of the shortest durations.
